A tribute to history and harmony.

For generations, the Buffalo Point First Nation Ojibwa people have thrived in harmony with nature and traditional values. The Native Cultural Centre is a tribute to ancestors and a reminder for future generations to come.

Interpretive displays include archival materials relating to the human occupation of the Point and an introduction to the area's natural history featuring a large mounted collection of local fauna. Also on display is a collection of works by local First Nation artists.

The unmistakable tipi shape of the building symbolizes the Ojibawa of the Lake of the Woods area who constructed their "wigwams" on a tapered pole covered over with birch bark. The shape itself represents the circle of life. The main roof beams are trimmed with colorful metal ribs in traditional red, yellow, black and white, marking the four cardinal directions. Images of mammals, fish and fowl indigenous to the region adorn the exterior walls.

At the heart of the Centre, human silhouettes kneeling at the fireplace offer up gifts to the spirit world, while the sun shines down on mother earth.

As well as serving the community for government and intergovernmental functions, the centre also contains a tourist information center and storm shelter.
